I am part of the C & O chess family center and alumni group. I am a better chess player than my rating. My coach told me, "Your rating doesn't matter." It also doesn't matter for you. Losing chess isn't a big deal. It's not the end of the world, it's not the end of your life. It's not the end of anything. It's all for fun. Get into a chess club, get lessons.
