Welcome! A Meetup for chess players of every skill level who are looking to meet fellow chess enthusiasts in and around the High Desert in California. While this is a friendly social group, we want to strive to develop and improve our skills through lecture, puzzles, "Over the Board (OB)" experiences, and tournament play. Yes, we're new! The formation of Chess Club of the High Desert (CCHD) was inspired by the inability to find social chess play in the Antelope Valley.  While the United States Chess Federation notes two recognized chess clubs in the AV, the only active group meets in the middle of the day and during the work week.  This lends itself well to students in the area, but makes it impossible for the working professional to participate.  By hosting social events both midweek evenings and weekend afternoons, CCHD should welcome itself to most schedules. Chess Club of the High Desert has a vision to become recognized by the United States Chess Federation.  This will allow CCHD to host USCF sanctioned tournaments and events that will allow our members to earn an official chess rating with the USCF that they retain for life and take with them no matter where they compete in the United States. CCHD believes that a chess club has an obligation to its members to not only provide a venue for open play, but to educate, train, and prepare the individual for competitive play.  This includes but is not limited to: chess lecture, game analysis, strategy/tactic theory, and the study of the opening, middle, and end game. CCHD will offer this material fee-free to any member who requests it, but the organization must remain self sufficient.  This is through the donation of materials, time, and/or financial support.  All non-sanctioned meetups will be open without obligation for donation, but we ask that those that do appreciate the value of the Chess Club show a token of their gratitude whenever possible.  No one will ever be turned away for their inability to donate. Our club starts with you.  Bring a friend.  This is YOUR club! 706 West Lancaster BoulevardLancaster, CA, 93535www.meetup.com/ChessClubContact Email: [email protected]
